New Childminding Resource

The CHANGE team has been working with an illustrator to develop a new resource that will share the findings from engagement sessions carried out with children at Burgh Primary School in Rutherglen and Rising Stars Out of School Care (OSC) in Orr Street. Using a range of approaches, these sessions explored the children’s views on Childminding. The new resource will have two elements; a comic book page documenting a day with a Childminder and a visual representation of the characteristics that the children told us make a good Childminder. We are looking forward to sharing this resource with you in the coming weeks!

Updating Family Support Findings

The CHANGE team has been writing a paper that outlines the local need for additional family support, specifically in terms of emergency childcare. This paper reflects what we have heard in the project area about the need for a supportive service that could provide emergency childcare for families, allowing parents and carers to attend important appointments or access support during stressful or difficult times, for example.

Plot to Plate

The CHANGE team is currently collating data and research supporting us to develop a strong evidence base for the Plot to Plate Club. We are analysing feedback from sessions that have already been carried out by the Plot to Plate team. This information will form the basis of the future development of the club and help evidence the positive impact of the sessions to future funders.

The Impact of COVID-19 Locally

The CHANGE team has been keeping in regular contact with local partners since the current lockdown situation began. We have been gathering information about the implications of the current situation for local families and will be using this to help inform our recommendations for next steps. The health and wellbeing of local children and families is the main priority and it is important that we do everything we can to safeguard this.

Helpful Information

The Scottish Government has published guidance on childcare closures and emergency childcare provision. This includes information on business and financial support for Childminders, which can be accessed here.

Parent Club has put together some useful information on how to cope with the huge changes we are all currently experiencing and how to protect yourself and others. You can access their advice and activities for families here.

The CHANGE team would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who is continuing to do essential work in the local area. We’d also like to say well done to everyone staying at home too, we know how difficult a time this can be. We are here for anyone needing support or a chat, whether you are delivering a service in the community or are someone who lives locally. In the coming weeks we’ll be sending out a zoom invitation to our CHANGE Hub members to join us for a cuppa and a catch-up. If you’d like to join in please let us know!
